Apples & Spice & Everything Nice! And, tribute to Lois's pies!
Five of us girls went to see Lois back in Feb 2007 for a pie-making day to learn from the best. Let me just say that pie-making isn't as easy as it looks. It takes practice, love, and is really an 'art'. I have the love part but the rest is yet to be learned.
I dug up some pics off Mel's facebook acct (thanks, Mel) from our pie-making day.

Here's the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker.... no, wait... we were all just bakers. Nevermind. This is Jennifer, Mel, Mindy, me, and Lisa after baking pies with Lois.

So........... today I got out my old recipe from Lois and decided to give it another whirl. Keegan and I went to Anderson Orchard on the SE side of town (http://www.andersonorchardpv.com/ go there if you can!). We picked out a bag of apples and came home and baked two pies!!!
I will note that I haven't actually tasted the pies yet (but can promise you that they are NOT as good as Lois's). I also didn't have any Granny Smith apples. In fact, I didn't have any apples from the Smith family-- not Grandpa Smith, Cousin Smith, Uncle Smith..... so I hope what I used was OK.
Here are some pictures. And, stop by for some pie when you get a chance!

Get to work, kid.

Voila!!!!!!!!!!
PS I know it looks like Keegan did all the work but he hasn't learned to take my picture yet. But, either way, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of child-labor. :)
