Happy Birthday to Keegan!

HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY to my precious little Keegan!!!!!

Three years ago today, I woke up to 2 loud "POP!" sounds after a full night's sleep. I didn't know what the pops were until I rolled over in bed. It was the sound of my water breaking! For those of you who haven't experienced water-breaking, let me just tell you... it isn't a 'trickle'. It isn't a cute little "drip, drip". It's more like lots of little buckets of water that just keep being poured out every time you move again. And, again. And, again.

So, we got checked into the hospital where I began to do email on Nathan's laptop, between contractions, of course. Who doesn't keep their email account up-to-date while in labor, right? I remember instant messaging someone my final words, "Gotta go- time to push!". Labor came on quickly. Like I've mentioned before, I went from about 3cm to 9 cm in under 10 minutes (4 minutes to be exact). The nurse wanted me to do some 'practice' pushes so that I would know what to do. The practice push turned out to be a real push and then it was time for the baby to come out. Not too long after pushing was the arrival of a very fiesty little baby. We had names narrowed down to two. Nathan knew right away that Keegan was the right choice (Keegan means little, fiery, and determined.... which fits him perfectly!). He was born at 2:19pm.

Anyone who lives in the same city as I do probably remembers the day Keegan was born but for other reasons. It was the day of blizzard-like conditions. It snowed very heavily, all during rush hour......several inches of snow. The whole city was basically shut down. What should have been a 20 minute drive for most to get home from work turned into 3-5 hours. My brother was on his way to the hospital from work (a 15 min drive) and gave up after 5 hours when he still wasn't there. Shift changes at the hospital did not happen. They ran out of food due to all the people from the streets coming in for shelter (leaving me with mystery meat and cooked spinach as my first 'big' meal after delivery) . I am thankful that we arrived at the hospital before the snow started, or else Nathan would have delivered Keegan in the car with the help of some bored truck drivers.

And, that's the story of Keegan's birthday!!!! He is a blessing and I thank God for such a gift!!!
