Looking into Leashes?

So, today I'm back to blogging about the kids. First, I want you all to know that Nathan went back to work this week so I'm adjusting to this 'new' life with 2 kids. I look back now and realize how easy it was to have one kid and I can't believe I ever complained about that!

Each day I'm a little more brave when it comes to leaving the house. My big fear is Keegan racing off when I no longer have a hand to grab him, despite what I've been trying to teach him about staying with me. Yesterday I took the kids to the YMCA just to get Keegan out of the house to burn off some energy. It was a lot of work to get everyone ready and out the door. Keegan got to play with his friends while I sat with Kennedy in the lobby and socialized. When we were walking out to leave, Keegan took off two different times. Once he ran into a preschool classroom where a class was being taught. I had to go interupt the class to hunt him down in the classroom (yes, embarassing).

Today I was even more brave. I attempted Walmart. Let me just say that we made it from the car to the building with no problems (I was holding Keegan's hood). When I stopped to get a cart I told Keegan not to move and re-lectured him on the importance of staying close. Sure, I threatened him as well. :) A woman stopped to ask me for help (did you read my Meijer blog a couple of days back?!) while I was putting Kennedy's carseat into a cart and juggling a diaper bag and coats. Keegan TOOK OFF FAST. So, there I am.... RUNNING to catch him.... while pulling a cart behind me and still juggling the carseat. One woman stopped to watch and chuckled, commenting on my 'active child'. Funny she didn't offer to babysit him.

Needless to say, I'm about ready to shop for leashes. Not really, but it's a thought, isn't it?!

Hopefully this will get easier. In the meantime, I'm open to your ideas! :)

I believe it may be time to introduce some shock therapy. Perhaps we can fashion some sort of portable, electric fence that uses bluetooth technology to effectively create a perimeter a certain distance from the main unit, which is small enough to fit in your purse.

When shopping. Park the car close to the carts outside if possible. Go get a cart, put Keegan inside it, then the baby. I offer a trip to the dollar store (for a toy or something) for good behavior. But Avery's a little older. Or go to Greenfield's Wal-Mart in the evening and leave him here :)
Sarah-- Good call on the cart corrals. I actually parked right next to one today and thought to myself, "Poor Keegan- I can't make him sit in a cold cart!". Whatever! After today I'm going to let his tooshy FREEZE!!!!!!!! :)

Sarah took the words out of my mouth! Now imagine having 3 kids to keep track of! Although going from one to two kids was much more difficult for me! Don't worry it will get easier. Plus once spring rolls around you won't have to the winter coat juggle! How I wish we lived in Hawaii!

My parents used a leash on me and I turned out OK (as long as you don't count the blog stalking!)
