Nice Day for Gnaw Bone
Thanks for all of my 'fans' who have been asking about my eye. It is much better, but not 100%. Last night it got sealed shut again during the night (thanks, Nathan, for getting up to feed Kennedy when I couldn't open my eye!). And, by evening I have a hard time keeping my left eye open at all. Nathan calls me a pirate. Arrrrrr.
So..... due to my pink eye, I missed a party Friday night, my friend's baby shower on Saturday, and church on Sunday. I just couldn't go to those things knowing that I'd be passing around pink eye.
On the other hand, for some reason I thought it was OK to do something with the family and contaminate perfect strangers in another county. Hence, our trip over the weekend to Brown County.
It was a beautiful, sunny day. I mention sunny because part of having pink eye is that it makes you very sensitive to bright light. It felt like a cross between having my eyes dilated and someone throwing sand in my eyes. I didn't want to stay home though, so off we went. We randomly picked Brown County and thought we'd just walk around and enjoy the nice weather. What we didn't know is that Taste of Brown County was going on. And, you know how we like to eat. We had free samples of foods like fried biscuits and apple butter, snickerdoodles and sugar cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, and so forth. Then you could also buy tickets to buy larger samples of other foods. A lady who was leaving gave us $10 tickets that she couldn't use! So, we had grilled sirlion steak, carmel corn for Keegan, and some other treats with the tickets. What a deal!
We also stopped at our favorite place in Gnaw Bone on the way. Gnaw Bone is just outside of Brown County and the fudge is a fraction of the price as it is in Brown County. The place we like is Pat's Sorghum Mill. They were out of fudge but we did manage to find some other goodies.
Here are some photos from our roadtrip!:
Here is Keegan in the car on the way there. Notice the laptop. Like father like son.
Here is Keegan enjoying his free sugar cookie outside the courthouse:
Here are our purchases from our Gnaw Bone sorghum mill:
Honey w/ the comb, pecan syrup, and persimmon preserves (for my grandma):
Here is Pat's Sorghum Mill from the parking lot. Classy place. :)
Here it is from the road. You don't want to miss it.
Nathan and Keegan outside the ice cream shop in Brown County.
Kennedy didn't fuss a bit despite the heat.
Nathan & Keegan walking around. Aren't they handsome?:
Keegan asleep within a few minutes of getting back into the car. A job well done.
We can't wait to go back for Taste of Brown County next year. I think it will be a good way to prep our stomachs for the summer fairs!

It's a trail running race. Either a team race of 50k, or an individual marathon or half-marathon. I think I know what you'll be doing on the 9th of May!
