Property Sweet Property

We are officially the new owners of about 11 acres of property in the southern part of our state. We went yesterday, along with Nathan's brother and our realtor (who is also a friend), to sign the papers and close the deal.

The property consists of a creek (which we only own half of....), a big field, and some forest. The forest has a neat rock formation with a cliff in it. If you climb to the top of the property, you are up high and also have a view of the national forest. It is secluded to say the least.

We learned a few things about the southern part of our state. 1) Everyone keeps tick spray in their cars and if you don't wear it you're just plain dumb 2) Did I say cars? I meant trucks. Everyone drives a truck. 2) People have fun southern nicknames like my new BFF, "Twit" 3) Everyone knows everyone else 4) Street names are more like "hollers" or "bends"... like "go around that bend and go 20 paces beyond that holler" 5) Cell phones don't work so great 6) Dogs can run just as fast as a car 7) Every 3 out of 4 people have the same last name

Nathan would like to use the property as an investment. We have a man who will gather hay from our field and we also may plant trees to harvest later in life. He also wants to build a weekend getaway type cabin on it. It's a good place for hunting and wildlife activities which you all know are my favorite (yes, please sense some sarcasm here). :)

It was a good trip. We got there early so that we could walk the property. The property has no trails or anything, so it was like walking through a jungle. There were lots of thorns, tall brush, bugs, and ticks. I had to whip out my old Girl Scout powers (minus the cookies). I had to be a trooper because I was with 3 men and didn't want to be a sissy woman. I think I did pretty well.

Here's the creek along the road. We own the right side of the creek. So, if you fish, make sure your line does NOT cross that center line!
Here's the field where the hay will be cropped.

Here's Nathan and Mark (realtor) going through the brush. See, some of these weeds were as tall as me. Wasn't I rugged?
We walked through the thick forest line..... again, I'm so rugged. :)

Once you walk through the forest, you reach the top of a hill and this is the view behind our property from there...
And, at the top of the hill-- here's looking back onto our property:
There were butterflies everywhere..
Also lots of pretty flowers (or weeds maybe?):
That's about it. I'm sure some future blog posts will titled things like "Amber Hunting: 101"!

such a beautiful spot! will the getaway cabin have indoor plumbing? I'm pretty sure it's cheating if you do.

Is there enough land to start your own fair? You know...a few rides, barns for the animals and of course, an abundance of food stands! I think there may be something here... :-)

It will have plumbing - eventually. :)

I'm actually thinking of doing a completely "green" cabin - solar power, gravity-fed rain collection system for water, above - ground solar composting type setup :)

Just sounds fun!

There is an old, 7 bedroom, Amish-built house right next door. It actually may be cheaper for us to buy it, and we'd have a lot more room.

Hm - we'll see.

Isn't the creek called a crick down in those parts also?
