Fairtastic!!!

We had a FAIRTASTIC time at the great state fair today. It was sunny, hot, and fabulous.

This was Kennedy's first ever state fair. She did quite well:
We arrived just after 10am when the gates opened. We started off with breakfast. I opted for a cream horn and Nathan got the cream puff.

The cream horn was OK but I thought the crust was a little dry and the filling left something to be desired. I still ate it, of course! :)

Nathan's cream puff was great with a nice homemade whipped cream inside:
Then we headed to the DNR building for Keegan to look at the fish. Oh, and he ate popcorn (it's the only fair food he likes).
We also went to the horticulure building and I got honey ice cream for the first time ever. It was only $1.50 and it was really good! I'll be getting it again.
Keegan really enjoyed the bees at the honey display:
We took a long break for a feeding and diaper change for Kennedy. Here we are:
Then Nathan got the gyro (this one's for you, Andrea!):
I got the steak on a stick. Throw some slab of cow on a stick and grill it; who can go wrong?:
Then we hung out in the Exposition Hall and saw Miss America (but didn't stand in line to meet her so I have no idea who that man is):
They also had a booth by the Boy Scouts where kids could make a wooden car and then race it. Nathan and Keegan endured the very slow line and Keegan made a car and really enjoyed it:
And, here's our official family photo from the fair:
Then we missed all the kid's stuff because Keegan, who never naps, was so tired that we put him in Kennedy's stroller and he fell asleep.... hard. He even slept through the very loud tractor pulls. He missed much of the fair. He woke up in the car coming home and said, "Mommy! We forgot the rides!" Little did he know he slept through half the fair.
On the way out, we found a fish place off the beaten path:
Here are my catfish nuggets. By the way, I now know that catfish is way too fishy for me. Plus, I started thinking about the catfish that I just saw in the DNR building earlier and couldn't finish eating it. Nathan got some pollock that was really good and mild though.
Finally, here's Kennedy hanging out while we ate our fish:
We had a great time and we're exhausted. Taking 2 small kids to the fair was more work than anticipated so we missed a lot of the food. Don't worry, folks, we'll be back!! I won't let the fair end without some of that chocolate covered bacon!! :)
