State Fair, Trip #2
We squeezed in another trip to the State Fair yesterday. We learned this year just how hard it is to take small children to the fair, so we only made it twice this year. Let me start by saying that yesterday's high temp was only 71. That's right, it was 71 degrees in the midwest at the fair. Unbelievable. There were a few times there was some misty rain but nothing big and we were always able to duck into a building for shelter. It was a perfect day!
We did a couple of things different on this trip. First, this is our first year for having official fair fashion. Keegan & I wore John Deere stuff and Nathan has a Farmall shirt. Second, we decided to be 'fair accountability partners'. Our job was to make sure that our partner did a good job eating as much as possible so that we didn't leave disappointed that we missed something. When Nathan didn't show much of an appetite at first, I was able to tell him to suck it up and eat more. It was an important role.
We started off at Mr Baker's where we got breakfast.... biscuits & gravy and a cinnamon roll. Now, in years past we've gotten the best cinnamon rolls ever. This year they were just so-so and I have no idea why they were different. We still ate them, of course! :) There was a long line; it was a happening place.

Then we stopped to watch some harness racing. Keegan LOVED watching the horses race by.

We also went to Riley Park where kids can pretend to be farmers. Then we sat on lots of tractors. Lots and lots.

Some food highlights included a smoked turkey leg:
Cheesecake on a stick, dipped in chocolate (yum!):
And a swiss cheese on rye- grilled cheese sandwich:
We had a fabulous day and Keegan got to do so much! And, another highlight was that we bumped into a blog reader & friend-- Mariah-- and her family from Ohio. It was her first time at the fair (*gasp*). I'm glad she got initiated! Here are our families together!
Today marks the last day of fair season. We are counting down the days until next year and working on our strategy!
