THINK PIG
The anticipation is killing me. Only FOUR months, exactly.... from today. Can you hear the music? Can you smell the manure? Can you taste the deep fried goodness? That's right, today marks exactly FOUR months until the great STATE FAIR (link). It's August 6-22nd this year, in case you don't have the date and fair emblem tattooed on your buttocks like I do. Now you are wondering, "Really? Does she?". You'll never know.
This year's theme is YEAR OF THE PIGS. That's a lot of pork chops and bacon. Grab your TUMS and get ready to fair it up!!!
As you know, with each year's theme comes new food choices that must relate to the theme. That means the new foods must contain pork, bacon, ham... you get the picture. To my knowledge, those haven't been announced yet. It's the kind of thing that keeps me up at night. Do you have any suggestions? Do share; leave a comment!!
Here are a few of my suggestions....
1) Deep fried BLTs, on a stick
2) Kabobs that include several bacon-wrapped items threaded together like bacon wrapped pork chunks, bacon wrapped pineapple, and bacon wrapped little smokies.... all on the same stick.
3) Deep fried bacon-flavored cheese
4) Pork tacos
5) Corn (cut off the cob), with chunks of bacon in it. Also loaded up with butter. Paula Deen does her version of bacon-wrapped corn too but she leaves hers on the cob.
6) A cup of bbq pork, with chunks of bacon in it
7) Bacon grilled cheese sandwiches for the dairy barn
I'm sure there are lots of other ideas. Once I hear the 'real' choices, I'll be sure to post. They usually have a poll on our local news that decides the winning choice that gets the publicity and best booth space at the fair. I'll want everyone to vote.
