La Escollera
I'm not sure what the words "La Escollera" mean in spanish. However, if I got to make up my own translation, I'd pick something like, "Really yummy food- Get your hands off my tacos".
Last night Nathan & I got to go on a date. It happens about every 4 months. We chose a little place called La Escollera. From the outside, it looks sort of 'hole-in-the-wall'. We don't mind that.
In fact, it makes me want to go inside even more.
The inside is very small but clean. There are tv's playing spanish soap operas and most of the people in there were hispanic. I love that.
We started with the chips and salsa. The chips were 'airy' (is that even a word?). I also splurged and got a bottled apple soda.

I ordered 3 tacos (note for future: 2 would have been plenty). I got one chicken, one steak, and one pork. The waitress asked if I wanted them to be Mexican or American style; I chose Mexican (just cilantro and onion) with corn tortillas. I also had them add avocado.
They were DELICIOUS. I spent much of 2 summers in Mexico and I can say these were the best tasting tacos I've had since being down there. They were so good that I'm still thinking about the taste a day later. The chicken was awesome (not shredded but the big chunks of chicken) and the steak was great. I probably wouldn't get pork again but it was still good. The tacos were on the a la carte menu for $1.75 each.
Nathan got the fajita meal.
It looked very good too, although he was ogling my tacos the whole time. We all know he wanted in on my tacos.
We were sooo full after dinner that I didn't get to try their chocolate malt. I love Mexican malts and I'm dying to know if they taste authentic (they use different chocolate and also add cinnamon and spices). I'll have to go back just for a malt.
The service was good and the waitress spoke decent English. The credit card machine did break down while we were there (Lucky for us we were paying with cash. Not so lucky for the people in front of us who were asked to go to a bank machine).
So, folks, here's my latest recommendation. If you live on my side of town-- give La Escollera a try!! I know we'll be back!
