Year Of The.......WHAT!?

The state fair picks a theme each year. For example, last year was the year of the pig which meant lots of new, yummy pork dishes. Thumbs up to year of the pig.
We are pretty saddened by this year's theme. Are you ready for this? It's year of the..... SOYBEANS. Think soy sauce, tofu, and soybean oil. Boo.

Well, it's time to vote for this year's soybean-related SIGNATURE FOOD (link for voting). Each new food will be at the fair, but the food with the most votes gets the best booth and extra marketing, etc.

Here are the foods and their descriptions, copied straight from Indystar.com.

Deep-fried tofu on a stick, $3
Vendor: Urick Concessions
Description: Three generous cubes of tofu, rolled in a crisp coating, deep-fried and served on a stick with a spicy dipping sauce.
Where's the soy? Tofu (soybean curd) with a soymeal coating fried in soybean oil.

Bacon-flavored pork burger, $5
Vendor: Indiana Pork Producers

Where's the soy? Pork from soy-fed hogs

Grilled pepperjack cheese on sourdough, $3
Vendor: American Dairy Association
Description: Perfectly toasted sourdough bread with plenty of spicy pepperjack -- made in Indiana at Deutsch Käse Haus in Middlebury.
Where's the soy? Cheese made from the milk of soy-fed dairy cows.

Deep-fried ice cream, $5
Vendor: Baskin-Robbins
Description: Reminiscent of the popular dessert at a now-defunct Mexican restaurant, this crisp/melty treat is topped with chocolate, caramel and whipped cream.
Where's the soy? Ice cream made from milk from soy-fed dairy cows with a soymeal coating fried in soybean oil.

Voting ends July 1st. Again, the fair runs Aug 5-21.
Cast your vote now and please leave me your comments.
PS If anyone votes for the tofu on a stick, I might have to unfriend you!

I was so disappointed when I heard it was the year of the soybean too! What the heck?! Anyway, I think the milk related products (grilled cheese and ice cream, made from soy-fed dairy cows??? come on, that is pushing it, don't you think? And, please don't unfriend me but, the tofu on a stick does sound good. However, I would never vote for it to have prime booth space at the fair. Fair food should not be healthy...at all! :-) Ok, so my favorite (and then I will go online and vote) is...drumroll please...bacon flavored pork burger! It combines last year's theme with this year's theme and I'm craving pork so bad. :-)
