State Fair 2011
Nathan & I finally made it to the State Fair last night.... and WITHOUT KIDS (a true miracle).
The fair was incredibly busy. And, we were there with a throng of screaming pre-teen girls who were there for the Big Time Rush concert. Apparently, I'm not hip enough to know who they are. But, based on all the screaming girls, they are something worth talking about.
The lines were so long that I only ate two things:
1. Steak on a stick. This is my default food because for $6, you can't go wrong. And, this year it wasn't on a stick so it was easier to eat! For those of you who want it, it's on the main street about halfway down, right next to the gyro booth. The tent has a blue and white striped awning. Always a good pick.
2. Fried Ice Cream. This was this year's signature food so I felt the need to try it for my readers. It's $5 (or $6 if you get the waffle bowl). It was mostly just ice cream with way too much chocolate syrup on it. That's it. Use your money elsewhere! I was disappointed!
Nathan ventured out this year by trying fair pizza. This was a high-risk choice but someone needed to try it. The pizza was cold and the woman selling it didn't speak enough english to complain to. It tasted like plain, cheap pizza (but wasn't cheap!). Skip the pizza.

Then he had a smoked turkey leg which was good. Warning: messy! Yummy though so totally worth it. If you've never had one, you should go for it!

Then he had the cream puff.
Love at first bite!:
I feel like we learned a lot of lessons at the fair this year.
1) Allow 1 1/2 hours to get there and park because apparently that's how long you'll have to sit in traffic on a nice-weather day
2) Don't ever buy fair pizza
3) Don't wait until dark to ride the ferris wheel because that's everyone's idea and the lines will be too long
4) Don't walk right in front of the concert arena when a pre-teen concert is letting out. At least, not if you value your sanity or your eardrums.
5) Don't move over for people walking with sticks. They aren't blind; they are just carrying around those doggone free yardsticks.
So, that was this year's STATE FAIR 2011 review!! We may or may not make it again. Having 3 little ones now and with Kennedy potty training, it's put a damper on us all going multiple times like usual. Maybe we'll see you there!
