95 Years- A Visit With Grandpa

I love spending time with my grandpa who is 95 years old.  He's a walking piece of history.  Plus, he's just a lot of fun.  He has the gift of gab.

Yesterday we took the kids to see him.  They love his Lazy-Boy chair with a hidden compartment in the armrest. He keeps cheese snack crackers there.  That's my kind of thinking.  Why don't I have a snack compartment in my chairs?

He shared lots of stories.

Like how he recently scared off a would-be burglar who tried kicking in his front door.  That's a brave 95 year old man.

Or, how he went to Disney World the day it opened but Disney World was full and couldn't let him in.

Or, how he successfully changed careers at age 45 to become a sales rep and follow his heart.

Or, all about living in the 1930s

And, I loved seeing him with the kids.

The photo above reminded me of this old one below. Here was my grandpa holding me in 1977 (and my brother, Jeff).

I also got to see photos of my great grandparents who I never got to meet. (sometimes when your kids knock over potted plants and you need to find a vacuum.... you get to snoop in back bedrooms and find old photos).

This was his mom (my great grandma).

Again, in 1950.

And, his dad (my great grandpa).   His dad had a chance to try out for the Cincinnati Reds but his wife made him pick her or baseball.   He picked her.   And, worked on the railroad.

A great visit with a special man.  I could listen to his stories all day.
And, I finally have a visit blogged so I won't forget the details!

LOVE IT. My Grandma turned 90 recently and I had so much fun writing the speech I did for the party & doing the slide show!
